Cancelling work: what happens in each state
Cancellation rules from before acceptance to after work starts.
Cancel, disputes & refundsWho is this for: Members, Employers, CompaniesLast verified: 2026-10-15
Before the member accepts
The employer can cancel a sent offer — the member is informed. Note that cancelled offers still count toward the daily/weekly limit.
After acceptance, before payment
Either side can cancel by writing in messages. No money moved, so there is no refund question.
After payment
To cancel before work starts, the refund process runs through support. If a problem arises after work starts, file a complaint instead of cancelling directly — a decision follows investigation.
Partial completion
Write down how much work is done and how much remains, and give proof with the complaint. Support resolves it based on the unused portion.
